ANTI-DOPING EDUCATION VERSUS FALSE SELF-AFFIRMATION

01/03/2013 - 31/03/2015

Completed: 17.12.2015 with letter №818/21.12.2015 from Angela Melo – Director ‘Ethics, Youth and Sport Division’ after submitting an evaluation and financial report to the Fund for elimination of doping in sport.

The project enlarged the athletes’ knowledge on prohibited substances and methods, the risk of doping use as well as the novelties both in sanction and in the Therapeutic Use Exemption through specialized education in Bulgarian sport schools. The project commenced with a preliminary inquiry to check the athletes’ knowledge about doping in sport.

Multimedia lectures have been presented to 214 Students(15-18 years old), teachers, and coaches from 8 Sport Schools in six towns of the country on the following topical issues:

•      Anti-doping rules (WADA Code, Prohibited Substances and methods);

•      Technical procedures at doping-testing; anti-doping rules and their violations;

•      Effects of anabolic steroids; risks of their use;

•      Effects of narcotics and stimulants, risks of their use;

•      Nutritional supplements;

•      Analytical findings and therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs)

     A specialized lecture for the risks of doping usage was presented in each of the four Orphan Houses included in the project.

Deliverables (booklets, leaflets, WADA Prohibited list for 2013, 2014 and 2015) in Bulgarian language have been distributed among the participants.

Every delivery of lecture was followed by passionate discussion. The educational process was finalized by a final inquiry (identical with the preliminary one) and the results from the analysis demonstrated an increased number of true answers. The participants gave a high evaluation for the effectiveness of the education program.

Souvenirs were distributed among the best participants from sport schools and Orphan Houses involved in the project.
