S0. Non-approved substances
What are non-approved substances?
This class includes all pharmacological substances which are not addressed by any of the sections of the Prohibited List and have no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use (e.g. drugs under pre-clinical or clinical development, or discontinued, designer drugs, substances approved only for veterinary use).
This class aims to discontinue the abuse of substances that are still in the research and development stage or banned for human use. An example of such a substance is methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta a.k.a CERA which is an advanced version of the endurance-enhancing blood hormone erythropoietin (EPO). CERA has been at the centre of several cycling and Olympic doping scandals.
